Bangkok Local Information
Bangkok, officially termed in Thai as “Krungthep” (the City Of Angels), is the capital city of Thailand and one of Asia’s most cosmopolitan cities. It is by far the largest urban area in Thailand where the visitors can find not only the cosmopolitan amenities they would expect from other big cities, but also a unique treasure trove of cultural attractions.
Located in the heart of Thailand, much of the area in Bangkok is a low flat alluvial plain which has the Chao Phraya River as a main geographical feature. Bangkok is bordered by Samut Sakhon and Samut Prakan in the south, Nakhon Pathom to the west, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Nakhon Nayok in the north, and Chachoengsao to the east and has a 4.4km long coastline. Before the establishment of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, the town of Bangkok used to be a small trading center and was basically a port community on the west bank of Chao Phraya River known as Bang Makok. In 1767 Ayutthaya was almost completely demolished by the Burmese, the army that survived then had to establish a new capital city called Thonburi on the banks of Chao Phraya River.
When King Chakri or Ramal reigned over the throne, he decided that Thonburi was no longer suitable as a royal residence and decided to move the capital to Bangkok on the other side of the river, the eastern side of the Chao Phaya.

Over the last few decades, Bangkok has changed into a modern, exciting and sophisticated city. It is regarded as one of the most famous holiday destinations in the world for its unique rich culture and heritage as it has never been colonized by another kingdom. It can be said that Bangkok has successfully combined its gentle culture with a bustle of a great and dynamic metropolis.
Being renowned as the world's top tourist destinations and tourist hotspot in Asia, Bangkok provides full options of amenities, what to do, and things to see for the visitors. The city comprises of approximately 400 fascinating temples, historical landmark, science museums, night clubs and national parks which attract a great amount of international tourists each year.
